How to enjoy Ceylon Tea. Be Mobile - Create Together!

In How to Enjoy Ceylon Tea Canan brings Sri Lanka’s colonial product of tea into focus. She highlights the Western and dominant way of theorizing: there is also a method for enjoying something. Canan seeks and finds other ways to enjoy Ceylon Tea. The work is inspired by Georges Bizet’s Orientalist opera The Pearl Fishers, about a community of pearl fishermen from Ceylon.

Canan Yücel Pekiçten (TR 1985) is a choreographer, dancer and lecturer. She works from her experiences and observations on social class and cultural diversity. In her most recent work she focuses on the representation of the female body in contemporary art. Canan received several residencies and she was as maker & performer present nationally and internationally, including at the Spring Dance Festival in Utrecht in 2012. More info >>>
