Slug Chamber - Stina Fors & fellow sonic artists (2020)
Stina Fors, selected for the Moving Forward trajectory 2019/20, invites the eccentric performance artists - Alex Franz Zehetbauer, Ria Higler, Veza Fernández - and the audience to SLUG CHAMBER, an innovative sonic project with voice, sound and noise as the messenger of dance. From 29 September to 3 October - evening after evening, these four artists will generate an ever-new set at Dansmakers Amsterdam around the central question: What are the possible revelations of the sounding body?
WHEN: 29 September - 3 Oct
WHERE: Dansmakers Amsterdam
Slug Chamber is like a receptive monster. In this open event they will feed, grow and shape the monster. Every day the four choreographers Stina Fors, Alex Franz Zehetbauer, Ria Higler, Veza Fernández come together to study the relationship between voice and body. What the artists have in common is that the place and engine of their artistic work is the voice as a hyper-physical instrument. They use the voice as the transforming organ. A potential with which they can shift, reverse and disrupt. "With our voice we are more flexible than the silent body, what sounds good or bad becomes irrelevant."
Slug Chamber proposes new ways to come together in the theatre, take a moment to listen, testify, move and excite. This open project embraces the unstable reality of the performance. A number of moments have been captured, but in between there is free play. The performance is not a finished, repeatable product, rather it is perpetually formed through the live event.
"With our voice we are more flexible than the silent body, what sounds good or becomes bad becomes irrelevant. We can change - or undo - our human set-up, and make hybrids appear; somewhere between harmonious and clumpsy, 27,000 teeth and a mouthful of spit, reptiles and birds, abstract and concrete".
- There is no being; all is change, echoes, reverberations, perpetual mutations.
