Kalpana Raghuraman (1975, the Netherlands) has been initiated in the tradition of Bharatanatyam by her mother and teacher Sharadha Raghuraman. Later on she continued to study Bharatanatyam at the Pradhan Centre for Arts in India. She also studied Cultural Anthropology and did research in India for a year about both the traditional aspects of the dance form as the contemporary approach towards it.
Kalpana's performances are characterised by the use of Bharatanatyam in contemporary and innovative contexts. Since her arangetram (Indian dance exam) in 1995 Kalpana has been giving performances in various countries. In 2008 Raghuraman created In Between Skin, produced by Dansmakers Amsterdam and supported by the Fonds Podiumkunsten.
