Finding the perfect Androgyny

Moreno Perna

Where XX and XY, the two sex chromosomes that distinguish man and woman, become fluid, the performance of Moreno XYX gets it form. His solo leads us from a clichéd woman image to an androgynous creature. According to Moreno, gender cannot be deconstructed, only transcended, and in that zone a fluid experience arises, beyond the division between what is feminine and masculine in our culture. A soft call to all what is male and female in the beholder.

Moreno Perna (1989) is an Italian performer based in Amsterdam. He graduated in Modern Theatre Dance from Amsterdam University of the Arts and started out as a performer with Troubleyn/Jan Fabre in 2014. He appears in Mount Olympus - to Glorify the Cult of Tragedy and De macht der theaterlijke dwaasheden. He also works as a nightclub performer under the name Vortex. In his work he focuses on creative research into identity as a cultural construct.
