Matteo Graziano

Matteo Graziano

After the creation of the duet meta:morphosis (2011), Matteo Graziano is selected for the research project TIERKREIS at Dansmakers Amsterdam in 2012.
Based between the Netherlands and Berlin, Matteo Graziano (Torino, 1984) is a choreographer and artistic assistant with academic background, with a strong interest in the energetic states of the performing body. He has experience with international leading production houses in Amsterdam and Italy (ICKamsterdam, Dansmakers Amsterdam, De Nederlandse Opera, P. Grassi).

In his choreographic work, Graziano is inspired by broad abstract concepts and themes from which he draws artistic research questions, (re)discovering the dormant layers of creativity in himself and his performers. He combines academic research input with instinctual and poetic imagination. His performances are said to be "solid, physical and philosophical at the same time" and that they "give the audience something to think about, to discuss and to feel".

Fascinated by movement in its different manifestations, he combines his enthusiasm for dance with a strong dedication in filmmaking and audiovisual productions. He is curator of the international tour and moderator for CINEDANS festival. In 2011 he co-founds CLOUD, a self-organised hub for performing arts in The Hague. Owns a BA in Anthropology at Università di Torino.

“As a choreographer, my fascination with the dancing body draws from the possibility of a profound self-investigation of this instrument. I am interested in the spaces in-between, in the ways to get there and in the things that happen there. Once found, I am willing to shake those physical memories and energetic strings. I believe in choreography as an archaeologist of the body that persistently digs and brings to light.” Matteo Graziano.
