Gaia Gonnelli

Gaia Gonnelli (Italy 1971) is a dancer, choreographer and dance teacher and attended the training Modern Dance in Amsterdam at the Amsterdam School of the Arts. After her training she danced in choreographies of Feri de Geus, Joseph Tmim, Shusaku Takeuchi, Wies Bloemen, Krisztina de Châtel, the Hans Hof Ensemble and Giulia Mureddu.
 
During her training Gaia began to develop her own work and since then she has choreographed several solos and group pieces. Her latest creations are Ondersteboven (2014 Dansmakers Amsterdam), Kleur (2013 Dansmakers Amsterdam), Voorstelling Gezocht (2010 Dansmakers Amsterdam) and the duet with live music 3x3 (Marieke Berendsen violin) a coproduction of the dance company de Stilte and Muzieklab Brabant. Voorstelling Gezocht is made in collaboration with Isabella Steenbergen and is the first creation of Gonnelli for children (6 +). In September 2013 Kleur, a performance for children from 2 years up, premiered at the Schouwburg Almere during Festival 2 Turven Hoog. In September 2014 her latest performance Ondersteboven premiered in youth theater De Krakeling. At this moment Kleur and Ondersteboven are touring through the Netherlands and Belgium.
 
Since 2000 Gaia provides dance classes to professional dancers and youth. She has taught at the theater school in Amsterdam (MTD) and (NBA training), Dansateliers in Rotterdam, Productiehuis Brabant in Tilburg and the Henny Jurrens Foundation in Amsterdam.
 
Regularly she gives dance theater workshops at secondary schools organized by Dance Theatre AYA. Gaia is currently following the BIK training (professional artists in the classroom), a post HBO education aimed at developing art projects for primary schools.
