Clara Amaral was born in between two mountains and incredible amounts of cherries, in Fundão, Portugal. She studied dance in Lisbon for 5 years before coming on a plane to Amsterdam. After 4 years in SNDO she graduated on a boat in the Summer of 2013. Her piece ‘Soap Crash’, a trio with Unn Faleide, Noora Hannula and Lisa Marie Hennig- Olsen, got an honorable mention in the ITs Festival 2012.
Before these days Clara was interested in pushing forward the artificiality of theatre and the sculptural of the bodies, combining expressive text with very rigid formalistic bodies. At this moment, with The Work, Clara feels that her interests are shifting, some of her questions at this moment are: How to invite the body to be the transmitter of different images? How to bring the non-efficient work into the studio? How to make the studio the theatre and vice-versa?
