Christiane da Cunha

Christiane da Cunha is selected for the research project Luz in 2010. In 2011 she made a production for the Brasil Festival Amsterdam: Mandinga. This production premièred on October 11, 2011 at the Melkweg, Amsterdam.

Christiane da Cunha initially studied communication and design in Brazil and Fine Arts and Photography in Italy. After a postgraduate study at Dasarts in Amsterdam and a residency at the L’Ecole des Sables, dance center of Germaine Acogny in Senegal, Da Cunha increasingly focused her attention on media and dance performance, taking part on several intercultural projects in Europe, Africa and Brazil.

Since 2004 she has worked in different dance companies and at her company Tchuka, founded in 2008, she creates her own art projects. Her artwork reflects her search for crossbreeding disciplines as well as her passion for nonacademicals artistic cultures and traditions where dance is manifold way of processing life rather than a singular professional choice.
